Arthur - Rex Quondam Rex Futurus

The Pendragon Society has spent almost fifty years pursuing
Arthur and examining all aspects of the Arthurian Material ‑ the
Matter of Britain. Our approach to Arthurian studies is
'holistic' in the sense that we do not limit these studies to
any one aspect or to a limited agenda that would exclude those
with interests in any area of these studies. Our long running
journal reflects these ever‑widening interests and
records the emergence of serious and not so serious pursuits
of Arthur over the past half century.
The Society has summarised these varied perspectives of Arthur
under three headings:
 |
Archaeology and History
|
 |
Literature, the Arts and Modern Studies |
 |
Legend, Myth and Folklore |

The symbol of
the three Celtic beard pullers represents the good humoured
tolerance with which we seek to view the alternative opinions
and theories about Arthur. The pages that will follow in this
section are brief outlines of this triad of approaches to the
study of the:
Once and Future King
